Natural Medicines: offers objective and evidence based information about conventional medicine as well as complementary, alternative, and integrative medicine. The pharmacist at my husband’s chemo clinic told me about this resource and I purchased a student subscription. I used the site to review my husband’s drugs and alternative therapies (such as nutrients, acupuncture, etc.) that were proven to enhance the effectiveness of the drugs naturalmedicines.therapeuticresearch.com
Pubmed: contains information from the latest published medical journals and includes foods and nutrients that are being studied to suppress cancer. You can search any medical topic – i.e. “cancer suppressive foods” and it will list studies related to your search. Often the names of food extracts are in a scientific language which is foreign to me so I also used Google to search for food sources that contain the extracts. For example phenethyl isothiocyanate extract is found in brassica, which is another word for cruciferous (broccoli, cabbage, etc.). I also find Pubmed useful to verify if a food can and/or should be included in my husband’s diet. Just because you read that something is good for you doesn’t mean that it is. The way that a mouse metabolizes food may be very different than how you will be affected by the same item. If in doubt please check with a dietitian ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed
